"The structure of the newspaper" by Elena Rguez. de la Sierra

The structure of the newspaper
How is a newspaper made?
The newspaper has different sections such as local, national and international news, politics, sports, health, education, culture and economy and several departments are in charge of them.
In order to see how much space they have for their articles they ask the advertising section that has already distributed the contracted ads on every page. The journalist gives a copy of his /her article to the photographer and another one to the head of the department. Once the page is revised it is sent to the director. They don’t use computer programmes to correct the mistake, they trust human eye.
Most pages are printed in black and white; the amount of colour pages depends on the budget.
News agencies (EFE, Europe Press, etc) provide national and international news as “Diario de Avisos” cannot afford correspondants.
In Spain, only three days in a year you cannot buy a newspaper as they don’t work: Good Friday, New Year’s Day and Christmas Day.
