INTERVIEW TO CÁNDIDA CARBALLO
Cándida Carballo is a very experienced journalist who has been working for “Diario de Avisos” for more than fifteen years.
Question. Cándida, why did you decide to become a journalist?
Answer. I didn’t decide it, really. I had finished my university degree and I was looking for a job, it fell to my lot… and I made the most of the opportunity.
Q. Did you do any journalism studies?
A. I have a degree in Spanish language and I love writing, that’s all. I have learnt everything with practice.
Q. Have you always worked for “Diario de Avisos”?
A. I started in another newspaper, “La Gaceta” that closed down because of financial problems. It was my first job, I was young and open to new experiences and journalism was a challenge. I became the director’s assistant. I had a great time there!
Q. What is your function here?
A. I’m responsible for the e-newspaper and write culture and international news.
Q. What do you like most about your work?
A. I love everything, especially writing and the opportunity of learning new things every day.
Q. Any disadvantages?
A. Nothing’s perfect! I hate not having enough time for my daughter. My timetable depends on everyday’s news. I wish I could know when something is going to happen so that I could organize myself!
Q. Moments in your career to remember…
A. I will never forget two interviews: Literature Nobel Prize José Saramago and Antonio González, a very important scientist who was born in Los Realejos. They were so modest! So brilliant and modest!
Carmen Labrador García.
