Lithuanian Homesickness!

People from different countries have lived together for a week which was one of the best in my life... I must say "thanks" to Lithuanian, Turkish, Romanian, Portuguese, Polish, Bulgarian and Danish students and teachers that shared up with me and the other Spanish girls funny and also emotional moments.

Svedasai Juozas Tumas-Vaizgantas Gymnasium

These are some of the school we visited last May. Svedasai is a little village in central Lithuania, about 300 children study there.

                                                           The school museum

                                                              The English classroom

                                                           The library

                                                           The canteen

We love Svedasai! We love Lithuania!

The story began when four students from I.E.S. Realejos  were chosen to participate in Comenius project. From that moment everything was excitement. We started to feel like explorers, wishing to discover new experiences, but also feeling it was a great responsibility to represent our school and our country.

But the expedition really started when we arrived in Lithuania on the evening of 1st May. Although willing to find out what would happen, we could not help feeling nervous  at the same time.

But the adventure surpassed our expectations. What we found there was a treasure: a chest full of  wonders. There were so many new things to learn, so many cultures together to be heard, seen  and tasted and such an amazing willingness to participate, to help and to share that we can do nothing else but be grateful to all the people that made this experience possible. ( teachers and students from the other countries, staff and students  from Svesdasai school, our dear Lithuanian families -who made us feel at home- and our teachers)

This was a wonderful experience and we have learnt  so much from it, but , above all, we have realized how different cultures can be, but how similar are all of us and how easy is to create bonds among countries and friendship among human beings.

This beautiful place in  the heart of Europe will always remain in the middle of our heart.

Healthy Spain!

  • Spain has become a model to be taken by other countries since it has been the world leader in organ donations for more than fifteen years.
  • Researchers from the Canaries have been awarded for discovering molecules against cancer in plants that grow at the road sides of the Canary Islands.
  • Biologist Noelia Alonso from Gran Canaria in Canary Islands has been awarded by Biogen Idec Foundation for discovering a protein related to the origin of self immune disease.
  • Four researchers from the university of Basque Country in Spain have been awarded for making advances in the treatment of Alzheimer.
  • The first baby without a gene linked to cancer has been born in Spain recently.

HEALTH NEWS in IES Realejos

Our school, I.E.S. Realejos has been participating for several years in a local programme called ‘Emotional-Sexual Plan’. With this programme our students receive a lot of information an advice about emotional and sexual relations. It  was born 13 years ago, but last April  the local authorities presented a renewed project under the name ¿Y TÚ?  (What about you?). This new project is aimed to all sectors of the population, including adults and disabled people.
Our school  also participates in a public health programme called ‘ITES’.  This programme aimed at secondary school students is against smoking and consists of several workshops throughout the school year to make young people aware of the risks of smoking.

Second Meeting in Svedasai (Lithuania) Articles in local newspapers!

The IES Realejos Team attended the Second Meeting in Lithuania from 1st to 8th May. There are no words to describe the unforgettable moments and feelings that all of us, Carmen, Celia, Laura, Elena, Claudia and  Keiko shared with all our Lithuanian friends last week. Thanks so much for their kindness and warm attention, for their great efforts to make our stay the most comfortable, for helping us with everything and for being such precious friends! We leave here two links to local papers that echoed the event.
