The Europe of Languages

It all began last July when our school was accepted as a partner of HELP Comenius  Project.  Apart from us, seven other countries would also be participating: Bulgary, Denmark, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Turkey and celebrating the first meeting in our school! We had no experience at all with European school associations and at first we were amazed, surprised and a bit scared of all the responsibility we had to take! Intuition told us that everything would turn out well and that the challenge would give our students a good opportunity to promote intercultural awareness and explore other countries’ cultures and ways of thinking  to understand and appreciate them better.
Commitment, the act of binding ourselves to a course of action, is the word that best describes the enthusiasm and positive feelings that all of us, students and teachers, have shared to push ahead. Creative ideas, original proposals and hard work convened to design the planning and fulfill our aim: to host our  friends and let them know how much we appreciate being a part of this  newborn community. Nothing as moving as the first day of the visit: students were so excited to welcome and greet the Project team, the school looked so lively with all the decorations and works displayed for such a  special occasion!
The meeting was very successful and we had enough time to share ideas and organize all the activities to be done during this year. Although it was the first time for most of us, we tried to do our best and reach agreements in a friendly atmosphere respecting different cultures and temperaments . It is a pity we did not have more time to share more experiences! … but May will come soon and our Lihuanian friends are waiting for us!
