Christmas in the Canaries

IT’S CHRISTMAS IN THE CANARIES!!!

Christmas is one of the most beautiful times of year, families gather to carry out traditions and thanks to that many old customs are kept alive. We are going to tell you what this holiday period is like in the Canary Islands, where excitement, enthusiasm, hope and unity are the stars that make their inhabitants live this holiday in a very special way.
Christmas is coming and with it traditions are retrieved, families come together, sing carols and eat delicious food. While in Spain Christmas is celebrated in a similar way, each autonomous region has its own customs and the Canary Islands, with its seven islands, multiply their traditions by that number.

THE NATIVITY SCENES

The nativity scene is the key element in the Canary Christmas. Although the Christmas tree was introduced and has now become common, most Canarian families maintain a tradition of making a nativity scene. Likewise, nativity scene contests are held on the streets of cities and in households. The scene makers put together true works of art and even nativity scene routes are created so that we do not miss out any.
